How It Works: Getting Started with SmartWaveHub

Getting started with SmartWaveHub is straightforward. Whether you're looking for in-home maths tutoring in Edinburgh or prefer online sessions, here's exactly what to expect from your first contact through to ongoing lessons.

  • Step 1: Initial Contact

Get in touch via the Contact page, email, or phone. Let me know your child's current level (e.g., S4 working towards National 5), what they're struggling with, and what you're hoping to achieve.

  • Step 2: Free Consultation Call

We'll arrange a free 15-minute consultation call to discuss your child's needs, my teaching approach, and logistics (in-home vs online, availability, fees). This is a no-pressure conversation , you'll get a clear sense of whether we're a good fit.

  • Step 3: First Lesson

In the first session, I'll assess where your child is currently at, identify specific gaps or weak areas, and agree on clear goals. We'll also establish how they learn best so I can tailor the approach from lesson one.

  • Step 4: Ongoing Tuition

Lessons are scheduled weekly (or as agreed). I track progress closely and adjust the focus as needed. You'll get regular updates on what we've covered and what's coming next.

Typical Lesson Structure (60 minutes)

1. Review (10 mins): Quick check of homework or previous topics to identify any lingering confusion.

2. Core Teaching (30 mins): New material explained step-by-step with worked examples. I adapt the pace to the student.

 3. Practice (15 mins): Student works through problems while I observe and guide. This is where real understanding is tested.

 4. Wrap-Up (5 mins): Summary of what we've covered, homework set, and preview of next session.

I use a mix of past exam papers, textbook exercises, and my own materials depending on what the student needs. Everything is focused on building genuine understanding, not rote memorization.

Demo Lesson & Block Booking

Not sure if tutoring is right for your child? Book a demo lesson at the standard hourly rate with no ongoing commitment. If it's not a good fit, no problem — but most students and parents find the first session immediately helpful.

Regular tuition is more effective than one-off sessions, which is why I offer discounts for block bookings:

• Book 10 lessons: 5% discount

• Book 20 lessons: 10% discount

Block bookings can be used flexibly over the term and give you better value for consistent progress.
